A special class
    2020-10-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

DuanMianmian , Class 5, Senior2, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School

On the eve of both the Mid-Autumn and the National Day, three other students and I went to Liulian Primary School, Heping County in Heyuan City. There, we experienced a most unforgettable class and had a beautiful memory engraved in our hearts.

There are only 17 students from grade 1 to 3, the majority of whom are left-behind children. Six teachers are teaching at this school. Although it was the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day, the children’s parents were still working in other places and couldn’t come back to spend the festivals with them.

As soon as we arrived at the school gate, the children couldn’t wait to run to the school gate with excitement and said hello to us in sweet and warm voices. We were also thrilled to meet them and were expecting what awaited us. We planned to teach to the children what we have learned best. I had prepared a music lesson for them while the three schoolmates of mine would introduce geography, national defense and drone-related knowledge to the children.

Before the class I was very nervous, thinking about a lot of things, like whether the children would like me and listen to me, whether I could teach the class well, or what if they wouldn’t sing with me. With uncertainty and nervousness along with expectation, I began my lesson. Soon, the children’s sonorous voices completely eliminated my doubts and relieved my tension. First of all, I employed a self-made story to make them understand the gesture of the musical notes. Then, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, I taught the children a beautiful song composed on a famous ancient poem, “Shui Diao Ge Tou.” I also explained some traditional Mid-Autumn Festival cultures. The melodious singing allowed children to appreciate the charm of traditional culture. In the end, at the thought that the children may not see their parents for a year, I taught them a line with a good wish, “Wishing we last forever, miles apart,” and told them the song, the moon and the special festival would send this blessing to their families. I will never forget the tears and longing in their eyes.

After enjoying a feast for the soul, it was the time for fun. The children, looking at their own hand-made lanterns and cute stickers, couldn’t help but show an innocent smile. It has left a deep impression on us all.

The children of Liulian Primary School have touched me greatly. Although their study and living conditions are difficult without the company of family members, their eyes are shining brilliantly with eagerness for learning and the love of life. This trip has been very fruitful, and I am now more deeply educated. We have come to cherish our present life more and hope to have the opportunity to come back again to participate in helping the poor. We are willing in the future to do more activities concerning social welfare and contribute to the society.
