Pingshan aims to be a high-tech base, cultural center
    2020-11-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BEFORE Pingshan District was established in 2017, it was part of Longgang District. Now Pingshan is dedicated to becoming a major base for advanced manufacturing, high-tech and high-end service sectors in Shenzhen, with special emphasis on biochemical, new energy, new materials, new-generation electronic information technologies, and creative culture.

A place largely populated by Hakka people, the district not only reserves many centuries-old Hakka compounds, such as the Dawan Ancestral Residence and the Longtian Ancestral Residence, but also aims to develop into a featured cultural center in northeast Shenzhen by holding contemporary art exhibitions, avant-garde stage performances and open-minded cultural talks.

The linear Pinshan Cultural Complex, which includes the Pingshan Library, the Pingshan Art Museum and the Pingshan Theater, is sandwiched between a residential area and the Pingshan Central Park. Although the district is remote and there’s currently no Metro service, Pingshan still attracts visitors from other Shenzhen districts to spend their weekends there.(Cao Zhen)
