The Institute of Environment and Ecology (iEE) of the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS) was unveiled on October 25.

Those in attendance included Hao Jiming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and a foreign academician of the American National Academy of Engineering, leaders from the SIGS, iEE faculty members, government officials as well as guests from other universities and corporations.

Addressing the unveiling ceremony, Gao Hong, executive dean of SIGS, said that the school attaches great importance to the areas of environment and ecology.

She hoped that iEE can take good advantage of the cluster of high-tech companies, technological innovation and quick technological translation in Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area at large, so as to attract excellent scholars and students from home and abroad.

He Kebin, an academician of CAE and director of iEE, introduced the institute’s future development plan. According to Ke, iEE will actively explore ecological and environmental development in the new era, train students with global competence and provide personnel support for the construction of advanced ecological projects.

Academician Hao Jiming expressed his hope for iEE to build a high quality faculty team in the future.

Wu Ye, deputy dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Environment, said that the school will continue to support the development of environmental disciplines at SIGS and strengthen exchange and interaction.

Other speakers included Lu Xuyang, deputy director of the Urban Construction and Environmental Protection Committee of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress and Zhong Hai, deputy director of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee, who put forth expectations for iEE to contribute to the construction of a pilot demonstration zone in Shenzhen and advance the city’s scientific and technological development.

After the unveiling ceremony, SIGS also signed agreements with Deland Water Technology Co., Ltd. to establish a joint graduate education base, and with CER Eco-Environment Development Co., Ltd. for a campus water eco-environment treatment project.
