New cases

Shanghai reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Monday, according to the municipal health commission. The patient, a 51-year-old male porter working at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, showed symptoms of fever, stuffiness and fatigue on Sunday.

Tianjin Municipality has entered “wartime” mode after one new local COVID-19 infection was reported, local authorities announced on Sunday. A worker at a cold storage facility in the port city tested positive for COVID-19 and is at a designated hospital for treatment.

English edition

Netherlands-based information analytics company Elsevier, in cooperation with Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, on Monday published the English edition of a guidebook written by top Chinese medics on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 pandemic.

The book, “COVID-19, the Essentials of Prevention and Treatment,” is also available in electronic form and medics can download it for free at the Elsevier information resource center online.

Antigen test kits

The national medical product regulator has granted market approval to two antigen test kits that can detect COVID-19 and provide results within 20 minutes.

Developed by two biotech companies in Guangzhou and Beijing, these products are the country’s first approved antigen test kits for COVID-19, the National Medical Products Administration said. The testing tools can quickly detect positive cases when the viral load is high during the acute infection period. They can be used for early triage and rapid management of suspected patients.

Man sentenced

A man charged with burying his mother alive in May has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for intentional homicide during his first trial in a local court in Jingbian County, Shaanxi Province.

The man, surnamed Ma, did not say in court whether he would appeal. According to Shandong Business Daily, the man’s mother, Wang, 79, died in September. Her death was confirmed by a community worker in her neighborhood, who said the elderly woman had not been well for some time. The report cited Jiupai News. In May, the 58-year-old Ma loaded his mother on a handcart and buried her in an abandoned grave, according to the local public security bureau.(SD-Agencies)
