THE fast-growth, high-quality cultural enterprises in Shenzhen brought their innovative and creative cultural products to the virtual China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), showing “culture +” business modes of applying cultural content in technology, creation, finance and tourism.

“Culture +” is not only a new business growth point of Shenzhen’s culture industry, but also helps improve the modern industrial system in a new round of upgrading.

The Futian Pavilion has seven exhibition areas displaying 1,000 exhibits from 80 enterprises. The exhibits include major culture and sports facilities like Shenzhen Library, Shenzhen Museum and Shenzhen Book City CBD Store; products of master artists; intangible cultural relics like Xiasha Village traditions; and annual major cultural activities that include Shenzhen Fashion Week. The list of exhibits, along with activities, is a guide for cultural tours around the district. It also shows the use of technologies like big data, AI, super Hi-Fi and 5G in the culture sector.

Luohu enterprises, 17 in total, are showing their strength and features in gold and jewelry, arts and crafts, animation and curios through 227 exhibits. The traditional businesses have been injected with high tech and have shown strong vitality after upgrading.

Bao’an District has selected 68 items for their VR Hall, showing the latest achievements in the culture industry, its competitiveness and influence, as well as integration of sports, culture and creation.

In the section of the Design Star of the Creative Design Hall, Li Fenglang, chief designer of the torch for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is showing his designs of Chinese Bronze & Brass Ware. He applied the “three-footed” concept of the utensil onto the designs of pots. The pot design was also inspired by the siphon principle and Chinese philosophy of refraining from the extremes.

“I hope to find new carriers, symbols from culture and life perspectives, and then add technologies into the new carriers and symbols before turning them into industrial products, which have rich Chinese culture elements, a strong sense of simplicity and lasting impressions,” Li said.

Zhang Xiangyang, a designer, brought creatively designed T-shirts, phone cases, cup pads and night lamps that are printed with lovely zodiacs.

“Foreigners are interested in the 12 Chinese zodiacs, a carrier for culture exchanges between China and the rest of the world. If they can be presented in a fashionable way, it can trigger the interest of the young generation toward traditional culture and invigorate the vitality of inheritance of Chinese culture,” said Zhang.

Zhang has attended ICIF since 2019. “ICIF is a bridge connecting creative products with markets and demand of customers,” said Zhang.
