Rip off 欺骗
    2020-11-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

据印尼媒体报道,有个印尼棺材匠三个月前意外得到了一块陨石,被一个美国买家以低价骗购了。请看本报昨日的报道:

An Indonesian coffin maker who found a meteorite after it smashed through his roof three months ago complained that he had been ripped off after selling the rock to an American for US$14,000, local media reported Friday.

Joshua Hutagalung, who lives in North Sumatra province, told the Jakarta Post that he was upset after finding out that his space rock was worth as much as US$1.8 million.

“If that’s true, I’ve been lied to and I’m disappointed,” the 34-year-old said.

Hutagalung said he had sold 1.8 kilograms of the 2.2-kilogram rock, estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, to a U.S. meteorite expert named Jared Collins for 200 million rupiah (US$14,000).

报道中的rip off就是“欺骗、敲诈”的意思。例如:

This saleswoman is trying to rip off the customer.

这个女销售员试图宰客。

The guy said it was a great deal for such a rare album, but I’m starting to think he ripped me off.

这家伙说这张唱片非常稀有难得,不过我感觉他在骗我。
