‘Deadpool 3’ taps ‘Bob’s Burgers’ writers the Molyneux sisters
    2020-11-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

EMMY-WINNING writers Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux have been tapped to write “Deadpool 3,” with Ryan Reynolds set to return as the foul-mouthed mercenary.

The Molyneux sisters are longtime writing partners, known for their Emmy Award-winning work on Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers.” The pair have also been nominated for three WGA Awards and won an Annie Award in 2017. The Molyneuxs also serve as creators, showrunners and executive producers on the animated comedy “The Great North,” which earned a second-season renewal ahead of its February 2021 premiere.

In addition to playing the wise-cracking mercenary turned superhero Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool), Reynolds also produces the films, alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, and he is reported to have been actively involved in choosing the Molyneux sisters to write the film’s script.

The R-rated series has been a box office juggernaut so far, bringing in an impressive US$1.5 billion — with 2016’s “Deadpool” debuting with US$783 million and its sequel earning more than US$785 million in 2018. A director for the impending project is yet to be announced, after Tim Miller helmed the first installment and David Leitch taking over for “Deadpool 2.”

Reynolds confirmed that a third “Deadpool” film was in the works late last year in an appearance on “Live With Kelly and Ryan.” “We’re working on it right now with the whole team,” the actor said. “We’re over at Marvel, which is the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy.”

The “Merc With a Mouth’s” move into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was brought about by Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, made official in March 2019. As a result, “Deadpool 3” is the first of the trilogy to be guided by Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige, officially bringing the character and his cohorts into the family-friendly MCU.
