THE Greater Bay Area future network test and application environment (FANet) project of Pengcheng Laboratory has fully opened 15 key nodes in 13 cities in Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The announcement was made at the 3rd Conference on Innovation in Future Network Technology and Engineering that was held in Shenzhen on Sunday.

It marked that “Pengcheng Cloud Network,” a large-scale scientific facility in Shenzhen, has officially begun trial operations.

Meanwhile, the construction of edge nodes of the project has expanded from eight nodes in Shenzhen to more than 40 nodes in cities including Shaoguan, Heyuan and Qingyuan, which will serve new-type network tests and the development of real economy in the future.

It is reported that the FANet project has initially completed capacity planning of network test platform based on network slicing and network virtualization, providing a network test platform for more than 10 key R&D projects at the national and provincial level.

The project has also effectively supported the network research work of universities and scientific research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The FANet project is expected to play a more important role in future network architecture research, network protocol and key technology breakthroughs, R&D of core chips and equipment and new-type business innovation, and become a powerful engine of technological innovation and industrial development in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
