Today’s the year assembly day! Mary was so nervous that she wished she could now disappear! Finally, it’s assembly time! The first one to speak was Mary. Mr. Hallcone gave a high five to Mary, and the whole class cheered for her. But that did not make Mary feel any better, instead she felt worse. “Now please welcome Mary Osterch from the sixth grade to come up to the stage,” Ms. Capler announced. Mary walked up to the stage and all eyes turned toward her, and all lights flashed on her. Mary took a deep breath then said, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to ELMA International school’s year assembly!” What’s it again? A few seconds passed, but it felt like centuries to Mary. She could just not remember! Suddenly, she saw that someone was holding the manuscript — it’s Erick! “Thank you Erick!” Mary thought silently as she saw Erick giving her a thumbs-up, then Mary went on, half looking at the manuscript saying “I’m Mary, the assembly’s emcee. Now please welcome the head of the school — Mr. Smith, to give us a beginning speech. Please welcome.” After that everything went well, thanks to the manuscript. When the assembly was finally over, Erick came up to her and chuckled, “I knew you’ll forgot!” Then, without waiting for Mary to say “thank you,” he dashed away again. |
