Security guard at school fired for hurting reporter
    2020-12-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HARROW International School Shenzhen Qianhai (Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai) released a statement Monday night via its official WeChat account in response to recent reports on a conflict between the school’s security guard and a reporter seeking a response to a refund issue.

Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai said in the statement that their Chinese principal has apologized to the reporter with Guangdong Radio and Television who was hurt by the security officer when seeking a response from the school on the refund issue reported by a citizen and sent the reporter, Yao Hong, a bouquet of flowers to convey their apologies.

The school has also asked the campus property management company to investigate the incident and to deal severely with any improper conduct.

It is reported that the property management company terminated the contract with the involved security officer and promised to conduct themselves in a civilized way daily while ensuring the safety of students.

The police authority in Nanshan District confirmed yesterday that the security guard has been put under administrative detention for three days, Nanfang Plus reported.

The school also advised media to communicate with the school first when requesting an interview.

Concerning the issue on education qualifications as questioned by the citizen surnamed Tan, the school said in the statement that they received a certificate from the management council of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai & Shekou Area of Shenzhen on Sept. 7 this year.

The Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau said that Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai obtained approval from the bureau, adding that the staff member with its petition office who said that the school lacked education qualifications was not familiar with the case as the staff member was recently employed, according to Shenzhen Evening News.

The establishment of the school is in line with related regulations and the school is qualified to enroll students, said Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai.

In terms of the school bus service, Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai replied that they opened more than 10 routes after starting face-to-face teaching.

The woman involved in the refund issue, Tan, canceled the bus service as she was not satisfied with the time and pickup spot, according to the school.

The school said they will return the consultation fee to Tan, Nanfang Plus reported.

Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai accepted an interview with Guangdong Radio and Television and Shenzhen Evening News on Monday.

During the interview, the school apologized to the involved reporter and provided related materials, according to the statement.
