AR technology brings novelty to campus
    2020-12-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

On November 23, teachers and students at the OCT Middle School were introduced to AR (augmented reality) technology at a lecture given by Cai Su, an associate professor with Beijing Normal University.

As the introduction of the lecture, Cai used AR technology to generate a computerized scene of the school to present the crossover between reality and the virtual world, which immediately caught the interest of the attendees. He then gave a brief introduction on the development of AR technology and explained how the technology facilitates teaching and learning in school. Using AR as a teaching tool, teachers will be able to elaborate on abstract and virtual concepts in a way that is more concrete and easier to understand for the students.

Cai demonstrated how the application of AR technology has been used in science classes at Beijing Normal University in carrying out the double slit interference experiment, in producing gravitational waves, and in measuring objects. He also taught the students a geography class in English. With the help of AR technology, students were able to memorize the English names of the eight planets in the solar system and better understand knowledge about the solar system and the rotation and revolution of planets.

AR technology can simulate realistic learning scenes and provide virtual laboratories to help the students learn knowledge regardless of time and space. It can also enhance the interaction between students and teachers and boost the students’ learning interest by introducing knowledge to them via immersive experiences and interactive games.
