World’s highest peak has a new height: 8,848.86 meters

The new height of Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest peak, is 8,848.86 meters, China and Nepal jointly announced Tuesday. It is 4.43 meters higher than the previous height. China has conducted measurements and scientific exploration on the mountain six times and announced its height, 8,848.13 and 8,844.43 meters above sea level, in 1975 and 2005, respectively.   (Story on P4)Xinhua
