Median salary of Shenzhen employees stands at 5,199 yuan

THE median salary in Shenzhen in 2020 stands at 5,199 yuan (US$794), ranking fourth highest among Chinese major cities, according to data from finance.sina.com and dydata.io, Shenzhen Evening News reported Wednesday.

Beijing tops the list with a median salary of 6,906 yuan, followed by Shanghai with 6,378 yuan and Hangzhou with 5,385 yuan.

In statistics, the median salary is the salary for which 50 percent of a city’s salaries are higher than and 50 percent of the city’s salaries are lower than.

The median salary, rather than the average salary, more accurately represents actual earnings of employees.

Shenzhen ranks third in the average salary of China’s fall job hunting period in 2020, as per data from online recruitment platform zhaopin.com and dydata.io.

The average salary of Shenzhen in the 2020 fall job hunting period reached 10,453 yuan, following Beijing with 11,623 yuan and Shanghai with 11,226 yuan. Hangzhou and Guangzhou came in fourth and fifth places on the list, with an average salary of 9,812 yuan and 9,230 yuan, respectively.

The average salaries of second-tier cities in the 2020 fall job hunting period are not less than 6,000 yuan. For instance, the average salaries of Dongguan and Foshan in Guangdong Province stand at 8,605 yuan and 8,277 yuan, which are among the top 10 on the list. (Zhang Yu)
