Industrial Internet empowers SMEs transformation: official

THE industrial Internet has empowered upgrading and transformation of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bao’an District through information sharing, industrial coordinated development, and information upgrading and financial innovation, an official of Bao’an District said yesterday at the opening of the APEC SME Business Forum.

The information sharing, which matches idled production and demand of overseas orders, improves the efficiency between enterprises and lowers the cost of acquiring the orders, according to Yao Ren, Bao’an’s Party chief, at a parallel forum yesterday afternoon.

“As most Bao’an enterprises are at the lower end of the middle of the industrial chain and value chain, the industrial Internet breaks physical limitations of different regions, silos of different departments and the hierarchy of different levels. It also stimulates coordinated development within an enterprise and improves the research and development within the industrial chain,” Yao said.

As SMEs are generally small in size and insufficient in funds, it is hard for them to get loans. The industrial Internet platform improves efficiency and the accessibility of loans for SMEs through financial services jointly developed with financial institutions, according to the Party chief.

Bao’an is a district in Shenzhen that is strong in manufacturing. It is home to 51,000 enterprises and 4,885 State-level high-tech enterprises.

“We have formed a three-dimensional development pattern in which government, manufacturing enterprises and Internet platforms are complimentary with each other. The government has completed construction of 9,508 5G base stations; some enterprises have formed their business scenarios through modification of industrial Internet; and some industrial Internet platforms are becoming influential,” said Yao.

Bao’an District is one of the hosts of the two-day APEC SME Business Forum bringing together guests from more than 10 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) member economies, scholars from business sectors and enterprise representatives to share ideas on the development of SMEs, digital economy and innovation, AI application and law services for SMEs.

This is the third year that the forum, organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, China Center for Promotion of SME Development and China International Cooperation Association of SMEs, has been held in the city.

In the first 10 months of this year, Shenzhen saw a total of 253,800 new SMEs registered, or 846 a day, according to official statistics released at a news conference. By the end of October, Shenzhen had a total of 2.23 million registered SMEs, accounting for more than 99 percent of the city’s total enterprises.
