THE Tongle area in northern Nanshan District will be built into an area for government-subsidized apartments and a comprehensive service area with auxiliary facilities for vocational education, according to a draft development plan released by the city’s planning and natural resources bureau. The area covers 334 hectares of land encompassed by Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway in the north, Nanhai Boulevard in the east, Beihuan Boulevard in the south and Hubin Road East in the west, according to the plan. The bureau plans to build a green corridor along the border between Nanshan and Bao’an, Hubin Road, Beihuan Boulevard, Nanhai Boulevard and Nanping Expressway. A slow-traffic system will be built along Tongshuang Road, Shangwen Road, Jianxian Road, Jianling Road, Jiantai Road, Nanbo Road, Leyong Road, Nankun Road and Nanlun Road. A walking corridor above the ground will be built along Hubin Road to connect with Bao’an District. All to-be-built roads will have independent bicycle lanes and existing roads will be renovated to include bicycle lanes. The area is planned to house 130,000 residents including 20,000 local employment opportunities.
