Chang’e-5 lunar probe

The Chang’e-5 probe on Monday completed its first orbital correction en route to Earth, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The CNSA said all systems on the orbiter-returner combination that carries lunar samples are currently in good condition. The orbiter-returner combination entered the moon-Earth transfer orbit on Sunday.

When the time is right, the orbiter and returner will separate from one another, according to the CNSA. The probe’s returner is expected to land at the Siziwang Banner in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in mid-December.

Frozen food handlers

Health authorities in the Chinese capital on Sunday issued guidelines on the self-protection of workers in the cold-chain food industry after a number of new COVID-19 cases were related to exposure to imported frozen foods.

The guidelines asked workers to wear facial masks and disposable gloves when handling frozen foods and to disinfect their uniforms when necessary, Beijing’s center for disease control and prevention said at a press conference.

Man penalized

Police in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province said last week they had issued an administrative penalty to a man accused of illegally spreading the personal information about a COVID-19 patient online that led to harassment against the latter.

The Chenghua branch of Chengdu’s public security bureau said in a statement that the man surnamed Wang posted a picture on social media containing identity information and daily movements of a woman surnamed Zhao, who was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient a day earlier. Police said Wang’s invasion of others’ privacy caused hateful effects in society and that Wang has admitted to his wrongful deeds. The statement did not mention the exact nature of the administrative penalty.

Mount Qomolangma

The new height of Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest peak, is 8,848.86 meters, according to a joint announcement by China and Nepal on December 8.

The figure, including the height of the snowcap, was confirmed by surveyors from the two countries, which reached a consensus last year to jointly declare the remeasured height of the peak and conduct scientific research on it. (SD-Agencies)
