SZU Museum opens
    2020-12-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The long-anticipated Shenzhen University (SZU) Museum unveiled its curtain last week.

At its first exhibition, 74 pieces of artworks donated by 43 artists of Shenzhen University were presented.

Zheng Xinmiao, former vice minister of the Ministry of Culture and former director of the Palace Museum, was appointed as the director of the academic committee of the SZU Museum.

Situated on the Alumni Square of the university’s Yuehai Campus, the SZU Museum has five exhibition halls. The preparation work started in May 2019, and the academic committee and the management committee were established in November this year.

The new museum aims to become a new artistic landmark of Shenzhen and provide spiritual and intellectual support so as to enhance the cultural connotation of SZU and make it a world-class university.

The SZU Museum should have its own characteristics, being modern and distinctive, according to Liu Hongyi, Party chief of Shenzhen University. “It should integrate technology and humanities, Chinese traditional culture and the world’s best civilizations, and internal and external resources.”

The 74 art pieces at the ongoing exhibition are rich in categories, covering Chinese painting, calligraphy, printmaking, oil painting, watercolor, mixed materials and sculpture. They will become part of the permanent collection of the SZU Museum.(Tang Li)
