A group of 20 Shenzhen students recently traveled to Sanle Village, Heping County, Heyuan City in northeastern Guangdong Province to help locals sell their produce online. Aged between 7 and 12, the students were from 15 Shenzhen primary schools, including Shenzhen Foreign Language Primary School, Mingde Experimental School and Cuizhu Foreign Language School. The tour was organized by Shenzhen Children’s Palace, and leaders arranged for the Shenzhen kids to live two days together with their peers in Sanle Village, working in the fields and eating with them in local households. On December 6, the children helped local farmers sell such specialty produces as mushrooms, black fungus, dried beancurd sticks and herbs during a livestream on Bilibili. Their livestream sale turned out total revenues of more than 18,000 yuan (US$2,756). The tour aims to cultivate in youngsters social responsibility, courage and the ability to cope with challenges in real life, the organizers said. (Debra Li) |
