Thank you, Mr. Zhong Nanshan
    2020-12-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, which in 2020 had a rare coinciding with the National Day, people in China safely traveled, visited relatives and enjoyed various activities, while the COVID-19 still ravaged many other countries in the world.

As the first country to confirm a COVID-19 case, China had no experience in its prevention, control, and treatment. But China became the first country to recover from the predicament and fully restored the national production before this “double festival.” In my opinion, many thanks should go first to an 84-year-old man, Zhong Nanshan, who made a great contribution to epidemic prevention and control.

Transmitting through the air and human beings, the COVID-19 virus has higher mortality than other viruses and there was no effective therapy for it, which caused panic in public at the beginning. However, let’s see how Zhong faced this critical moment: He first issued a warning of “Don’t go to Wuhan.” At the same time, he rushed to Wuhan without hesitation and studied the prevention and control plan there. At the suggestion of Zhong, the government resolutely and quickly took measures such as closing down Wuhan City, urging people to wear masks, and executing isolation among provinces and counties. As a result, the COVID-19 pandemic was under control within a couple of months in China.

During this period, Zhong did not pay any attention to fame and wealth. Regardless of his old age, he did not fear difficulties and risks, and worked hard. In this battle without gunpowder and smoke, Zhong, as the front runner and a model for the people of the whole country, through his dedication, his work style, and professional attitude, moved us and strengthened our courage to fight the epidemic.

Hence, we need to thank Zhong! We also need to learn from Zhong. Only by starting from the present, studying hard, and mastering the professional knowledge can we stand out and offer a share of power and enthusiasm for the country and the people at the critical moment, just like Zhong!
