Bill McCullough boards sports injury doc
    2020-12-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FORMER HBO Sports, NFL and GoPro Entertaiment executive Bill McCullough is set to share director duties on “Thrive,” a documentary on sport athletes’ traumatic brain injuries from The Workshop Content Studios.

The 90-minute film will feature athletes Koby Stevens, Sidney Crosby, Owen Wright and Kevin Pearce as they recount their rollercoaster experience after sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the groundbreaking treatments that helped their brains heal.

Stevens, a former professional Australian rules footballer, McCullough and Tom Farrell, CEO of The WorkShop Content Studios, will co-direct “Thrive.”

Three-time Super Bowl champion Lonie Paxton will executive produce the doc, which will film on location in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, California, Cincinnati, Vermont, Florida and Chicago.

The WorkShop holds the global distribution rights to “Thrive” for all media platforms.

An 11-time Emmy winner, McCullough is currently executive VP of content for Esports company FaZe Clan, and before that served as VP and head of development for the NFL, VP of HBO Sports and executive producer of GoPro Entertainment.

McCullough’s content credits include the HBO documentaries “Breaking the Huddle,” “Assault in the Ring,” and “Lombardi & Namath.” He directed the HBO series “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumbel, and more recently developed and produced premium content like “Dude Perfect Super Bowl Trick Shots” and the eight-part Facebook docuseries “Hala Madrid!”

The WorkShop Content Studios has produced content for a range of linear TV and digital platforms, including Amazon, Netflix, PBS and TLC.
