The district will build venues to host top eSports competitions, set up a headquarters base for China’s eSports industry and endeavor to become a center for the eSports industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to attract more companies from the industry. In order to support gaming companies to develop healthy gaming products and film enterprises to create works themed around the topic of eSports, Nanshan District will give excellent firms up to 1 million yuan (US$153,200) each as a reward. In addition, 5 million yuan worth of one-off fund will be available for top eSports clubs in the country to settle in Nanshan. The district will give a subsidy of up to 3 million yuan to encourage holding top international eSports competitions. Different amounts of subsidies will also be made available for different categories related to the development of the eSports industry, according to district officials. Zhang Yijia, general manger of the Mobile eSports Department of Tencent Interactive Entertainment Group, announced at the press conference that the 2020 Honor of Kings Winter Champion Cup will be held Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Nanshan. Official data suggests that as of the end of 2020, Shenzhen has more than 4,000 gaming enterprises, including 26 listed gaming firms. |
