Shekou school marks 50th birthday
    2020-12-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The Shekou School (Secondary Section) recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of its establishment at the opening ceremony of its 19th Sports Festival.

Officials from municipal and Nanshan District education authorities, as well as retired school leaders, faculty members, alumni, teachers and students gathered together for the momentous occasion.

The celebration started with energetic dance and gymnastics performances presented in a square formation which consisted of 1st to 9th graders.

Following the performances, a grand gala kicked off with a thrilling music performance that expressed the school’s upbeat spirit. The gala featured a variety of art forms including chorus performances of “Our Field” and “Happy Festival,” the music poem and painting “The Original Aspirations Start from Shekou,” a dance named “Endeavor,” an accordion unison “Song and Smile + Katyusha,” an art and sports medley “Art Rhythm Under Sunshine,” a recitation of “I Grow With Shenzhen, I Go Forward With the Motherland,” and group songs “Years of Shekou, Spring and Autumn,” “Youth,” “Forward,” and “The Motherland, Shenzhen Salutes You.”

According to Yang Shaolin, principal of Shekou School, Shekou Middle School (High School) was established in 1970. At that time, Shekou Middle School was the highest-level school in the entire Shekou area, and the school produced a batch of outstanding graduates who joined the mainstay of social development. After 50 years of development, Shekou High School has expanded from four teachers and 29 students in the early years to today’s 3,000 to 4,000 students.

The graduates have made important contributions to the development and progress of society in Shekou, China and even the world. “Due to the extremely underdeveloped economy at that time, the classrooms were built by the teachers and students with their own hands, brick by brick, and this sports field under our feet was also leveled out by the teachers and students back then, shovel by shovel,” Yang said.

The quality of education and teaching is steadily improving. In recent months, students have achieved excellent results in various kinds of competitions. (Yang Mei)
