New French movies to be screened

Seven French movies will soon be screened in town at the Broadway Cinematheque and the Palace LUXE Cinema.

The movies were all created in the past two years: “La Vérité” was directed by Palme d’Or winner Hirokazu Kore-eda and stars Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche, Ethan Hawke and Clémentine Grenier; “Un Triomphe” won Best Comedy of European Film Awards; “Sibyl” was a Palme d’Or nominee at the Cannes Film Festival; “J’ai Perdu Mon Corps” won Best Animated Film of César Awards; “A L’Abordage” was selected to be shown in the Panorama section at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival; “Fête de Famille” again stars veteran actress Deneuve; and “La Belle Epoque” gathers a group of French stars including Daniel Auteuil, Guillaume Canet and Doria Tillier.

‘J’ai Perdu Mon Corps’ (2019)

Plot: “J’ai Perdu Mon Corps” (“I Lost My Body”) is an animated film that tells the tragic and uplifting story of Naoufel and Gabrielle. In another part of town, a severed hand escapes from a dissection lab, determined to find its body again.

‘La Belle Epoque’ (2019)

Plot: A couple is in crisis. He, disillusioned, sees his life upset the day an entrepreneur offers him to plunge back into the time of his choice.

‘A L’Abordage’ (2020)

Plot: An unlikely oddball trio bonds during an impromptu trip to the French countryside on a foolhardy romantic mission.

‘Un Triomphe’ (2020)

Plot: “Un Triomphe” (“The Big Hit”) centers on an actor who gives drama lessons to prisoners in an attempt to stage “Waiting for Godot.”

‘Fête de Famille’ (2019)

Plot: “Fête de Famille” (“Happy Birthday”) centers on a mother’s birthday party which is interrupted by her most unpredictable daughter.

‘La Vérité’ (2019)

Plot: “La Vérité” (“The Truth”) is about a stormy reunion between scriptwriter Lumir with her actress mother, Fabienne, against the backdrop of Fabienne’s autobiographic book and her latest role in a sci-fi picture as the daughter of a mother who never grows old.

‘Sibyl’ (2019)
