Should we wear masks as vaccines are put in use?
    2021-01-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Jonas Huang, G10, RDF International School

In China, we have been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic for a long time and we definitely want it to end soon. Therefore we should all wear masks at the final stage.

As the COVID-19 pandemic is slowly fading in China, people are getting more and more relaxed with prevention methods. However, it is my opinion that even though the virus is under control in our country, we should still wear masks.

First of all, such situations could give the virus a chance to spread rapidly once again. One day when I walked past an elementary school, I saw only a third of the students wearing masks, which worried me a lot. If someone is accidentally infected and brings COVID-19 to places off guard, it would make the history recur. Our city would possibly be in lockdown if the virus takes advantage of this gap and spreads.

Second, we should wear masks because it does protect us and others. If one is accidentally infected with the COVID-19 virus, a mask would surely protect him/her. If you are the one with the COVID-19 virus, a mask could also block your sneezes from transmitting to the air and eventually infecting others.

Last but not least, we should wear masks for the people who have fought to protect us, risking their lives. They would not want their time, effort, even lives to be spent in vain.

So let us all wear masks to do our part in fighting the virus.
