An exhibition featuring over 160 paintings themed around the Chinese New Year was inaugurated in the Lianxin Campus of Liannan Primary School. With diverse patterns and vivid colors, the paintings have enlivened the campus and brought fun to students amid the cold winter. The paintings, featuring Chinese New Year cultural symbols such as Menshen (the threshold guardian), Caishen (the god of wealth), the Chinese zodiacs as well as the intangible cultural heritage of Mashao facial art, were created by grade 1 students in the school. The inheritance of traditional Chinese culture has always been a focus of the curriculum of Liannan Primary School. To improve students’ understanding of the culture related to the Chinese New Year, the school organized four special drawing classes for all grade 1 students. The kids were then invited to draw a painting surrounding a theme assigned to his/her class. Wang Jing, an arts teaching researcher at the Educational Science Research Institute of Shenzhen, gave comments on all the paintings exhibited and commended the school’s efforts in arousing students’ interest in traditional Chinese culture. The exhibition will last until next week. (Yu Yuanfan) |
