Tencent Mini E InnoCamp sparks creativity and entrepreneurial spirit
    2021-01-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The sixth session of the fourth Tencent Mini E InnoCamp was recently concluded at the Tencent Headquarters in Nanshan District, during which a group of digital Innomakers presented various projects and showed off their creative ideas and great passion for future careers.

At the camp closing ceremony, Hanqi, a girl student from Shenwai International School and her team applied what they had learned from the “Sci-Tech Financier” course and translated the knowledge into a parent-child wealth management product called “Xiaokerong Wealth Management.”

Hanqi didn’t think they had been fully prepared even before the presentation of their product; however with the encouragement from their instructors, they finally unveiled their product and received thumbs-up from parents and teachers, which filled her heart with a sense of achievement.

Tianyi from Shenzhen College of International Education was the only girl in the “Creative Game Production” classroom. She was very shy in the beginning and didn’t speak much. As time went by, Tianyi started to open up and actively exchanged ideas with fellow students about game design.

During the three-day program, students were required to code their own games and create mini game consoles. As a complete novice, Tianyi put forth extra effort to learn basics in the class and researched after class. Hard work paid off. Tianyi built a game called “Duck Deer Collision,” a nod to the classic game “pingpong.”

In the “Be Shining” program, Zhidan from the Merchiston Castle International School wowed the whole class with her creative scientific costumes which combined programming and fashion design.

Zhidan’s work was accompanied by the theme song of the Harry Potter movies, and every musical note was manually entered into micro:bit (the pocket-sized computer transforming digital skills learning).

Zhidan hopes more girls can started to learn and know more about programming. “I never thought that I could make such a fun work by combining programming and fashion design,” she said.

South Korean student Tommy, who is Zhidan’s schoolmate, had always shown strong interests in artificial intelligence (AI) but he never got a chance to learn AI technology until he was enrolled into the “AI Vehicles Challenge” classroom. At the camp closing ceremony, Tommy and his team introduced an intelligent car and demonstrated how the vehicle could correctly respond to different traffic signs.

Tommy said he was greatly encouraged by the project and hoped in the future he could use AI to help educationally underdeveloped regions in the world.

Yuqi from the Shenzhen College of International Education is a video uploader with 57,000 subscribers on the video sharing website Bilibili. Therefore, he chose the “Audio Production” class. However, the project of Yuqi and his team didn’t go smoothly in the final recording part. He comforted his teammates with his own experience and encouraged them to carry on.

Tencent Mini E InnoCamp is an Internet project-based innovation camp especially built by the Tencent Youth Camp for young people. It continues to help young people follow Tencent’s senior Internet instructors to conduct project-based learning through online and offline activities, complete their first Internet career star project, and gain unique Internet skills and career experiences. The professional instructors of this camp are all experienced seniors from Tencent University, Tencent College, Tencent Wealth Management, Tencent YouTu, Tencent CROS audio team, Tencent Creative Programming and RoboLex, and other Tencent divisions.

Within Tencent’s real corporate environment and Tencent’s professional resources, the Tencent Youth Camp has jointly developed six Internet digital Innomaker projects, namely financial technology practice, open source game machine design, technology clothing design, intelligent cart challenge, creative game production and audio project practice.
