William Su, Grade 5, Shekou International School The sun races to the sky A fortune cookie Burning the clouds Into a fiery haze The city snaps awake Trucks prod cars along highways Cars chase motorbikes through narrow lanes Restaurants and cafes open their doors And smells of breakfast waft out Fishing boats bob in the bay Like rubber ducks in a bathtub Sandwiched between coastlines One of mountains The other of buildings The sun shines through A hole in the sky Shedding its warmth on green mountains And the blueberry jello sea As time passes The clouds retreat From the horizon Bells sound from schools Children flood out People leave their offices Climbing into their cars Forming a stream of light The street lamps go on The lighthouse glows like a lantern in twilight The cars An ocean Like fireflies in the dying light Shining through the evening sky The sun sets But the city is still alight By thousands of shimmering lights. |
