New president faces numerous tasks
    2021-01-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Editor’s note: Former U.S. President Donald Trump handed power to his successor Joe Biden on Wednesday, with the latter declaring that “democracy has prevailed” and summoning American resilience and unity to confront the deeply divided nation’s historic confluence of crises.

Shenzhen Daily invited five expatriates to make comments on the transition of power, the Trump legacy and what will happen next.

As a European, I see the things that are happening in the world from afar without any judgment of who is right or wrong.

This U.S. election is a hard fought one and sometimes, as maybe not always, exceeded the limits of, or lack of personal respect and decency.

The campaigns were hard and at some times it was not just about politics anymore.

The new U.S. president who served under former President Barack Obama as vice president is a born politician.

I believe he can be a good president but his tasks are enormous. In a political world it is difficult to satisfy everyone but at least he can try.

A world leader needs to build bridges between countries, and leaders in his own country need to establish unity between the people. My deepest wish is that world leaders may join together to make the effort to make this world a better place to be for everyone instead of quarrel with each other. There are so many things to argue about, some meaningless and some spiced with a deep grudge. A great leader should be a good diplomat and forge bonds in deep understanding.

Time will tell if President Biden will be that person and we keep believing he will. Sometimes the most difficult problems can be solved by simple solutions if there is good will to do so between each other.
