We’ve watched as he pulled the United States out of so many international organizations and agreements, removing us all further from commendable goals of global cooperation in health, security, climate control and nuclear non-proliferation. We’ve watched as a virus ravaged a nation already torn apart by inequality and racial division, only to witness an attack on its democratic institutions. As an Australian, I’ve sometimes struggled to understand how things have unfolded, but I welcome the start of a new term under new leadership and continue to watch with hope. Biden’s incoming team has emphasized healing, reconstruction and re-engagement. I certainly welcome these sentiments, and I have every confidence that with the right guidance, the great ship that is the U.S.A. can right its keel, and find its way out of the storm. |
