SHENZHEN will start construction of the Qianhai-Pingdi section of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail, the Qianhai-Huanggang Checkpoint section of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Rail, the Shenzhen Airport-Pingshan section of Shenzhen Airport-Daya Bay Intercity Rail and the Dapeng spur line of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail.

In the provincial government work report delivered by Governor Ma Xingrui at the annual session of the 13th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, the construction of the intercity rails will help form a fast transit network of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), cutting the travel time between the major GBA cities to under one hour.

The rail projects are part of Guangdong’s effort, as Governor Ma had outlined in the key tasks of 2021, of building the GBA on rails.

The Qianhai-Pingdi section of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail will run 58.8 kilometers, passing Bao’an, Longhua and Longgang in Shenzhen and Fenggang in Dongguan. It has 11 stations and ends at Pingdi in Longgang District. The Huizhou section of the Shenzhen-Huizhou rail has eight stations.

The Shenzhen Airport-Pingshan section of Shenzhen Airport-Daya Bay Intercity Rail will run 71 kilometers from Terminal 4 (T4) of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport to Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone in Huizhou, passing through Shiyan, Longhua, Bantian, Longgang and Pingshan. It is expected to stimulate tourism in Dapeng and Daya Bay area.

The Dapeng spur line of the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail runs 39.8 kilometers, passing Longgang CBD, Pingshan CBD, Yanzi Lake area, Kuichong CBD, Dapeng and Xinda areas. It has six stations. It will cut the trip from Dapeng to Qianhai and T4 to one hour.

The Qianhai-Huanggang

Checkpoint section of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Rail will travel underground for 23.4 kilometers, passing Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base in Nanshan and reaching Huanggang Checkpoint in Futian District.

The four lines will be completed and put into operation in 2026, according to the plan. (Han Ximin)
