‘Genesis: The Awakened Warrior’ dazzles PAFC Mall
    2021-01-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chinese artist Ren Zhe is exhibiting his sculptures at the “Genesis: The Awakened Warrior” exhibition at the PAFC Mall. Entry is free.

Ren’s sculptures take the form of masculine warrior figures, with their magnificent stances valiantly grounded, or with chest thrusting in mid-air; they provide dynamism to the human anatomy that conveys a passionate, energetic existence. In his new range of works of sculptures at the exhibition, he incorporates light as a medium, illuminating the details. By adopting Asian heroic imagery, Ren is exposing history through a conversation between his sculptures and the viewers. From his conception that today’s generation is not cherishing the past enough, it is his personal agenda to reignite the spirit of humanism and gain respect for a cultural history that it rightfully deserves.

Born in Beijing in 1983, Ren studied sculpture at Tsinghua University’s Academy of Fine Arts. From an early age, he has maintained a fascination for heroic figures in epic tales of mythology and antiquity, which have become recurrent themes in his creations. Ren has years of study in Chinese literary classics, music, calligraphy and painting and these elements form a foundation for his art. It is in the process of the absorption and transformation of traditional cultural resources that he redefines his unique form of sculpture.

Since 2005, Ren has garnered critical acclaim and attention in the auction market, first in Asia and then across the world. His works have been collected by institutions worldwide and have won prestigious international awards. He has held solo exhibitions in China, the United States, Singapore and South Korea, notably in Taimiao Temple in Beijing in 2019 and in Hong Kong Exchange Square in 2017.
