Children who love singing now have an opportunity to join the Shenzhen Concert Hall Chanson de Montagne Multiethnic Children’s Choir, according to a notice released on the official WeChat account of Shenzhen Concert Hall on Saturday.

All kids aged 5-13, regardless of their nationalities, can sign up for an audition for the choir through the WeChat mini program “飞越彩虹民族童声合唱团” before 8 p.m., January 31, according to the notice.

For an initial assessment, registered interviewees are also required to send a video of the interviewee singing a song without instrumental accompaniment to choir@szyyt.com before 6 p.m., February 5.

This is the second round of the choir’s recruitment this year. Nearly 800 children joined the auditions for the first-round recruitment held on January 20-21.

At the first-round auditions, the children were required to sing a song and receive tests of vocal range, sense of pitch and sight-singing, according to Hu Manxue, art director and conductor of the choir.

“We auditioned over 300 kids today. I feel that the kids were better prepared this year than previous years. Some of them are very well-trained in music. I’m satisfied with today’s interviews,” Hu told Shenzhen Daily on January 20.

Speaking of the standards used for selecting new members, Hu said that voice quality and the sense of pitch are the two main criteria.

New members of the choir will be trained in a beginners’ group before advancing to a higher-level group. Only the best can get into the performers’ group, which often requires a few years of training, said Hu.
