Residents write Spring Festival couplets at Jinghua community in Futian District yesterday. Spring Festival couplets, also known as Spring Couplets or Chinese New Year Couplets, are composed of a pair of poetry lines vertically pasted on both sides of the front door and a four-character horizontal scroll affixed above the doorframe. These traditional decorations for the Chinese New Year are used to express the feeling of life’s renewal and the return of spring and to convey people’s wishes for peace, fortune and good luck.
