Book malls hold winter camps for staycation
    2021-02-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Winter camp activities are being held at Shenzhen Book City CBD, Nanshan and Luohu stores, respectively, for kids who choose to stay in Shenzhen for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday between Friday and tomorrow.

During a winter camp session on Friday, 20 children worked as the sales guide at the children’s book area of Shenzhen Book City CBD Store in Futian District and helped arrange books on the shelves. Grade six student Qiu Bingxian, one of the participants at the winter camp, enjoyed working as a sales guide at the book store since it’s one of her favorite places for hanging out during the winter vacation.

“At the book mall, all the books on the shelves are so well-arranged that it’s easy for me to find the books that I want, which makes me curious about the work of a bookstore sales guide,” said Qiu.

The kids also learned the usage of self-service checkout and inquiry machines and basic knowledge on the categorization of books and the working methods and etiquette of a sales guide under the instruction of book mall staffers at the camp.

After finishing the work of sales guides, kids were invited to the family beverage lounge at the book mall to draw Chinese New Year-themed pictures and then introduce their works to other participants.

Besides the book mall, the Yiwen Children’s Literature House in Futian District also hold the winter camp, where the kids visited exhibitions on the development and works of young Chinese literati, created poems, and experienced different learning styles for writing.

In another development, other major book malls in the city also debuts their own version of winter camps for the kids to spend their “staycation.” Shenzhen Book City Nanshan Store is holding a series of reading events for families with children, while the Luohu store teach the kids on making ox figurines using clay at the camp.
