SZU students celebrate the Lunar New Year
    2021-02-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chinese and foreign students of Shenzhen University (SZU) and volunteers from Yuegui Community gathered at the SZU international students’ hall on January 28 to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The aim of the activity was to introduce the traditional Chinese New Year culture and anti-pandemic measures during the festival to students in the hope that international students can enjoy the festival atmosphere safely amid the pandemic.

The students were immediately immersed in the atmosphere through learning about cutting paper, making sachets, and writing “Fu” and Spring Festival couplets. “Fu” is a Chinese character that means good luck.

They learned not just the skills of writing couplets, but also the history, meaning and format of couplets. Greeting phrases such as “Da Ji Da Li,” “Fu” and “Xin Chun Kuai Le” are among their favorite writing preferences.

By reading posters in a publicity column and participating in interactive quizzes, the students gained a better understanding of China’s anti-pandemic measures. They expressed confidence about the country’s pandemic prevention work for the upcoming year and promised to support the work with their actions during the Spring Festival. (Liu Jiayi)
