‘Better Call Saul’ scores leading five noms in WGA Awards
    2021-02-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Writers Guild of America has announced its first batch of nominees for the 2021 WGA Awards.

“Breaking Bad” prequel “Better Call Saul” may have been notably left out of a number of top acting categories by the 2020 Emmys and only earned one Golden Globe nomination this week, but the Bob Odenkirk starrer still found fans among the Writers Guild, racking up a leading five nominations, including one in the short-form new media category for its “Legal Ethics With Kim Wexler.”

“The Simpsons” was nominated four times in the animation category. “The Great” and “Ted Lasso” each scored three nominations after both earned multiple nods from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association this week. Double WGA Awards nominees include “The Mandalorian,” “Ozark,” Stephen Colbert and Amber Ruffin.

Colbert’s nightly “Late Show” was nominated for comedy/variety talk series and his 2020 election special was nominated for comedy/variety special. Ruffin was nominated as part of the writing team for “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” another comedy/variety talk series nominee, and for her own series on Peacock, in the comedy/variety sketch series category.

The 73rd Writers Guild Awards are set for March 21.(SD-Agencies)
