Yantian port jam forces limits on container trucks
    2021-02-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IN recent days, the roads to the Yantian port saw long lines of cargo trucks waiting to enter the port to unload their cargo. Starting midnight Tuesday, the Yantian International Container Terminals will suspend receiving loaded containers that are scheduled to be shipped for export at least seven days later, for three days.

Yesterday, the port did not receive containers with shipping dates after Feb. 16. For today and tomorrow, the port will not receive containers which will be picked up by containerships later than Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, respectively. The port will resume normal operations Friday.

Several reasons caused the long lines of trucks for the Yantian port.

Receiving large numbers of exporting orders, the products from the factories in the Pearl River Delta area need to be sent out.

The docking berths for containerships were oversold before the Spring Festival, but the ships did not always show up at the expected time which caused a mountainous container backlog at the port for several days.
