The looks at the Golden Globes
    2021-03-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AS befits a socially distanced awards season, there were two official red carpets for the 2021 Golden Globes, one in Beverly Hills and one in New York — not to mention the miles of colorful carpeting in the homes of the nominees, celebrity presenters and millions watching on television.

Amy Poehler cohosted again this year from the Beverly Hilton, the Globes’ traditional venue. Across the country, her partner in prime time, Tiny Fey, did the honors from The Rainbow Room at 30 Rock.

Despite the scaled-back celebrations, the red carpets were surprisingly festive and the stars displayed plenty of virtual glamour.

Sharing the stage with Poehler and Fey were the 2021 Golden Globes ambassadors: Satchel and Jackson Lee (children of Spike and Tonya Lewis Lee).

Other celebrities making statements at the live awards ceremony include Cynthia Erivo, who soaked up the limelight in a lime green Valentino couture gown. Presenter Gal Gadot looked wondrous in superhero-style white Givenchy, Tiffany Haddish also dazzled in Alberta Feretti, and Margot Robbie made an entrance in Chanel.

Despite all the designer labels, Twitter went wild for pajamas, courtesy of Jodie Foster. She and her partner wore silk pajamas while snuggling with their dog as she accepted her award for best supporting actress in a motion picture.

The 2021 Golden Globes nominees tuned in virtually, delivering video acceptance speeches from their hotel and living rooms. Win or lose, many seized the excuse to dress up in some couture, starting with Amanda Seyfried in Oscar de la Renta.

The “United States vs. Billie Holiday” star Andra Day, nominated for both best actress and best original song, was another Golden Globes high note in a Chanel haute couture gown.

Elle Fanning celebrated her first Globes nomination for best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy for her role as Catherine the Great in the Hulu series.

Kaley Cuoco was nominated for best actress in a television series, comedy or musical, for her role in “The Flight Attendant” and took off in an Oscar de la Renta gown.

And best actress in a motion picture winner Rosamund Pike brings a bold red by Molly Goddard (and bold Wander Boots by Alexander McQueen) to the ceremony.

She was awarded for her role in “I Care a Lot.”
