SHENZHEN’S neighbor Huizhou has beautiful beaches but there’s another attraction for you to explore. Dongpo Garden is a park in honor of famous poet Su Shi (1037-1101), also known as Su Dongpo. He was banished by the court to Huizhou for his opposing views. During his three-year stay in Huizhou, he penned hundreds of poems praising the city and its people. He also helped build infrastructure and improve the locals’ farming techniques. Dongpo Garden has an entrance square, a cultural and leisure area, a memorial area, a folklore area and a lakeside scenic area. The Dongpo Memorial Hall and the Dongpo Statue are key attractions. In and around the memorial hall, there are several sculptures depicting the prolific poet enjoying his southern life. The garden is designed in the style of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) era and is a pleasant place to walk around in.(SD News) |
