Volunteers in the Minzhi Community, Longhua District organized a collage making session for local children on Saturday to mark Tree Planting Day, which fell on Friday this year. Titled “I Have a Date With Spring,” the event organizers hoped to cultivate in the next generation a love of nature and help them experience the fun of manual labor. The volunteers first lectured the children on the history of Tree Planting Day in China and the importance of protecting the natural environment. Then the children were given DIY kits, with which they made collages out of plant-based materials such as leaves and branches. The collage designs featured the images of wild creatures such as an elephant, a peacock and a giraffe. All participants enjoy the event, which also provided an opportunity to train their ability to observe and bring out their creativity. (Li Dan, Wang Lin) |
