A new gallery for children opened at the Yiwen Children’s Literature House at Xiangmi Park in Futian District on Friday. Renowned writer and painter Zhou Yiwen, who is also a guest artist of Futian District, was appointed as director of the gallery. An exhibition featuring 30 pieces of Zhou’s ink paintings is being displayed in the halls. Zhou drew inspiration from his childhood spent near Dongting Lake in Yueyang City, Hunan Province and created the ink paintings featuring different kinds of oxen and cowboys to celebrate the Year of the Ox. He also let his 8-year-old son inscribe the paintings. The exhibition is open to the public till June. Entry is free. The gallery will hold art lectures on a weekly basis for children, where Zhou will further elaborate for the attendees on his ox-themed paintings. Zhou has been dedicated to the development of child-friendly cultural activities in Futian District. He initiated the establishment of the Yiwen Children’s Literature House last year and hosted a reading-themed gala for children for this past Spring Festival holiday. The establishment of the children’s gallery, together with two other important cultural facilities based in Xiangmi Park, namely, the Futian Children Library and the Yiwen Children’s Literature House, marks a milestone in the development and innovation of children’s culture in Futian District.
