Two exhibitions at Great Art Space
    2021-03-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

‘Urban Enlightenment’

The “Urban Enlightenment” exhibition consists of two parts: Bulgarian artist Christian Vatchkov’s artworks and Shenzhen Center for Design’s project.

Vatchkov spent a whole year in Guzhen, Zhongshan City, famous for manufacturing lighting fixtures. He observed there and created artworks built upon the traditions of abstract Expressionism and Neo Dada, portraying an ink-spotted Guzhen with avant-garde and concise art language. Lights, cards, murals, stains and obscure phrases have all been captured by Vatchkov, who portrays the walls and streets of Guzhen with pencils, markers, spray paint and stencils.

Shenzhen Center for Design’s project is the public space transformation project on Zhongkang Road in Futian District. The goal of the project is to enhance the ecological environment by improving the basic transportation and the environment of urban streets. By integrating public art and festive activities, it activated the local community as well as the use of public space.

Dates: Until May 5

‘One’s Universe’

The “One’s Universe” exhibition features the works of five illustrators: Flame, Liang Xiaoping, Lin Zilin, Nikon and Zhong Junkun, who are involved in a variety of styles and mediums.

When light enters each artist’s universe, they have their own unique life response, shape, function, strictness, fertility, understanding, etc., and these feedbacks are presented in their works. Flame captures and expresses the sense of flow; Liang focuses on literary philosophies on daily experience; Lin displays a multi-dimensional presentation of visual aesthetics; Nikon shows a modern interpretation of Eastern classics; and Zhong presents fantasy and modeling of contradictory characters.

Dates: Until May 9

Hours: 1-7 p.m. (Mondays), 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (Tue.-Sun.)
