While most senior grade 3 students are staying up late to study for the National College Entrance Exams (also known as gaokao), 122 teenagers from the Shenzhen Foreign Languages School (SFLS) have already been pre-enrolled by top Chinese universities. Among these, eight have received pre-enrolment notices from Peking University and Tsinghua University. Others have been offered seats at such prestigious universities as Renmin University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Nankai University, Xiamen University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and others. A leader in elementary and secondary education in Shenzhen, SFLS over the years has continued to innovate and grow. In 2018, the school group launched a reform and reshuffled its resources to establish four academies to cater to the needs of different students. The various academies respectively prepare students for their future studies according to their own choices: Some would apply to study abroad; some specialize in foreign languages; some will become future science and technological leaders; some are devoted to liberal arts studies. The SFLS is one of the 13 foreign languages schools in China that were first granted the privilege to have students pre-enrolled by top universities. In recent years nearly 200 students have been pre-enrolled by Peking and Tsinghua universities. (Li Dan) |
