太好哭了
    2021-04-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“哭” means “to burst into tears.” This term can have different meanings when pronounced differently. Having existed for a long time, the term, with “好” pronounced as “hào” (meaning “inclined to”), describes a person who is sentimental and cries often. Chinese netizens have given the phrase a new meaning by pronouncing “好” as “hǎo” (meaning “well, extremely”), using it to describe things or scenarios that can move people to tears. This usage derives from its opposite “好笑” (hǎoxiào), meaning “laughable.”

Example:

A: 最近有什么电影好推荐?

Zuìjìn yǒu shénme diànyǐng hǎo tuījiàn?

Do you have any movies to recommend?

B: 电影院里在上映《波斯语课》,太好哭了。

Diànyǐngyuàn lǐ zài shàngyìng 《bōsīyǔ kè 》,tài hǎokū le。

B: “Persian Lessons” is being screened in theaters. It’s a tearjerker.
