Chinese pianist Zuo Zhang will play Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde Prelude,” Schoenberg’s “Three Pieces, Op. 11,” Liszt’s “The Fountains of the Villa d’Este,” Ravel’s “Jeux d’eau” and Poulenc’s “Napoli” at the theater in MixC World on April 27. A prized student of professor Dan Zhaoyi at Shenzhen Arts School, and later winner of the Petschek Piano Award at The Juilliard School, Zuo is no stranger to local music fans. Described as “full of enthusiasm and glamour, radiating the vigor of youth” by Gramophone, her interpretations and communicative abilities have been praised as “taking us to another reality” by Belgischer Rundfunk, while her creative maturity has been hailed as “a powerful, passionate and compelling representation of pure artistry” by the Los Angeles Times. An imaginative and electrifying performer, Zuo, better known as Zee Zee outside China, regularly performs with some of today’s leading conductors including Marin Alsop, Michal Nesterowicz and Yu Long, and with such prestigious orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony and BBC Symphony. Universal released her first album in 2019, featuring Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G” and Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No. 1” with Paavo Jarvi and the Philharmonia Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, Zuo also regularly performs with violinist Esther Yoo and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan as the Z.E.N. Trio. Zuo has also studied with Nelita True at the Eastman School of Music, Yoheved Kaplinsky and Robert McDonald at The Juilliard School and Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute, as well as receiving guidance from Alfred Brendel.
