Free weekend shows at Shenzhen Concert Hall
    2021-04-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

This month, the two public benefit series at Shenzhen Concert Hall — Beautiful Sunday and Afternoon Music Time — will continue to bring a variety of music styles to locals.

On April 11, an accordion concert will be performed to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Astor Piazzolla, the legendary Argentine tango composer and bandoneon player. Local accordion player and educator Li Yi, together with his band Made in Shenzhen, will perform the classic works of Piazzolla as well as a few beloved pop music pieces. The band, the only electric music band with an accordion as the front instrument, has a rich repertoire in diverse styles. The band will lecture a bit about their instruments and the program as they perform. Four young accordion players, Wu Daoyi, Huang Yuqi, Huang Shuheng and Guan Xiangyu, will also perform.

On April 18, two young pianists who graduated from Boston University’s School of Music will present a piano four hands concert. Jin Yu and An Xinran, both award-winning pianists, will bring some of the best symphonic works, including the overture of Mozart’s “Serenade for Strings,” Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture,” a suite from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” and the overture from Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld.”

Additionally, on April 10, 17 and 24, three shows in the Afternoon Music Time series will respectively feature soprano Huang Lu and her students in a vocal concert, several local musicians in a traditional Chinese music concert and several chamber musicians and their students presenting the works of Bach, Haydn and Mozart. These three will be performed at the chamber hall on the fifth floor of Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Admissions are free but audience members need to apply for tickets via the WeChat account (szyinyuet). Seniors can call 8284-1839 for reservations.
