A “RED Film Week” was opened Sunday afternoon at the Shenzhen Civic Center to pay tribute to the centennial of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was founded in 1921. Debuting at the opening ceremony was a lecture given by Shenzhen Radio announcer Liu Yang, who used film footage to share with the audience the recent Chinese history in which the PRC’s founding fathers led fearless soldiers to drive away the Japanese invaders and bring about the founding of the PRC. An exhibition of 100 war and revolution-themed films posters that document the sacrifice and achievements of the CPC members is on display at the Civic Center, many of which are originals that appeared during the movies’ premieres. Arranged chronologically, the posters are grouped in four categories to reflect events in recent Chinese history. A total of 100 such movies will be shown in theaters and outdoor public venues until the end of the year, including fan favorites of older audiences like “The Tunnel Warfare” (1965) and “Heroic Sons and Daughters” (1964). The movies will also be available on major Chinese video sites like Tencent and iQiyi. Organizers of the film week have also arranged for film critics and professors to give lectures about the “red films” in every district of the city. The organizers are also enlisting film reviews from fans, and will shortlist 100 prizewinners from the submissions. Those interested can submit their reviews to hsdianying45@163.com until May 12.
