The best way to protect environment
    2021-04-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

David Wang, G10, RDF International School

In the past decades, the environmental condition has worsened a lot. People have proposed several solutions to help the environment, such as the promotion of reusable bags and the planting of vegetables and trees. As a high school student, I think forestation is the best option to help protect the environment.

Primarily, trees improve air quality. They can absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen through photosynthesis. For example, I am living in a city with a large percentage of green areas. During the process of photosynthesis in green plants, many greenhouse gases are absorbed.

As a result, air quality is improved though many exhaust gases caused by transportation are emitted every day. Trees are called the lungs of the Earth, as they help absorb pollutants in the air and produce oxygen. Hence, planting trees is beneficial for the air and the entire environment.

Additionally, forestation will improve the percentage of green spaces. By providing wild animals with comfortable habitats, it can increase the wildlife population and biodiversity. Through forestation, there will be a larger plant-covered area and a more extensive habitat for more species to live.

The community I am living in has many trees and public parks. The green spaces are composed of different trees and shrubs, so many kinds of birds and reptiles dwell in these areas, and I can see birds of different sizes or different families in the place I live. The biodiversity in our community is rich.

In contrast, persuading shops to stop providing plastic bags is not practical since there are no strict laws to forbid the use of plastic bags. Increasing public transportation is not effective as it will cost a lot of money. If the government is going to improve the public transportation system, they need to purchase buses or trains, and they need to construct the subways, which is a big project. It can even be a waste if a lot of people don’t take it.

To conclude, I believe planting trees is the best method to protect our environment.
