
QIN WEIZHONG has been appointed as Shenzhen’s acting vice mayor and acting mayor at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress on Saturday. The committee also accepted Chen Rugui’s resignation as the city’s mayor. Qin, born in 1971 and a native of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, graduated from Tsinghua University in 1996 with a master’s degree in chemical engineering and obtained a doctoral degree in engineering in 2015. His career started with Sinopec in 1996 and has over 20 years of work experience in China’s oil and petrochemical industry. He became vice general manager of China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) in 2017. He was appointed Guangdong vice governor in March 2019. Also at Saturday’s meeting, Zhang Hua was appointed vice mayor of Shenzhen. Meanwhile, the city legislature’s annual session will open May 15, according to the meeting. At the session, the new leadership of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress and the city government will be selected. Local lawmakers will deliberate documents including the city government work report and the draft outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for the city’s economic and social development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.(Han Ximin) |
