A MALE driver surnamed Li from Shenzhen is now spending 15 days in a detention center after police recently announced the punishment on the charge of intentionally picking a fight and causing trouble. According to a dashcam video, Li, the driver of a BMW vehicle, hit emergency brakes three times, forcing the following car to stop again and again in Fengze Lake Tunnel on Nanping Expressway, Longhua District, at about 2:22 a.m. April 16. When the latter intended to make a left turn, the BMW cut it off in traffic. Li even got off the car, tossing a water bottle and provocatively gesturing to the other motorist. Li, a 24-year-old student, said he was driving slowly while looking at road signs, but the car behind kept flashing to hurry him up. “I was too angry. I lost my temper at that point.” The video went viral on the Internet and more people revealed that Li had exhibited aggressive road behavior before. Shenzhen traffic police carried out an investigation and publicly announced Li's punishment Friday. According to China’s road traffic safety law, on a same-direction motor vehicle driveway with more than two lanes, a vehicle changing lanes shall not affect the normal running of other cars. However, the law has set no punishments on road rage incidents. In practical law enforcement, police commonly use the following charges to punish road rage drivers: picking fights and causing trouble, endangering public security by dangerous means, dangerous driving and causing a traffic accident.
